Arab Orthodox Charitable Society
|
In August 2009, the Arab Orthodox Charitable Society has successfully purchased a new building. The new premises shall serve as a center for the AOCS. The current rented building is no longer suitable for the AOCS activities because, is too small; it has no hall, it has a bad location; noisy because it is in the center of the town, and has no parking, and the rent is expensive.
On the other hand, the new premises will be larger and more spacious; which can include more offices for the staff, and a hall for the different activities, better location, which has a parking area, healthier atmosphere for working, and more quietness. Moreover, the AOCS will no longer pay the monthly rent, and this will guarantee the sustainability and continuity of programs an will give the opportunity to achieve more goals.
The building that the AOCS intends to buy is located at the old city of Beit Sahour, and it goes back to the second half of the 18th century. It belonged to Farah Musleh. The building is consisted of two floors and has 8 rooms. Of course, the building is not in good shape and it still needs to be renovated before being used. Renovating this building will not only benefit the AOCS, but also will contribute in preserving the cultural heritage in the old core of Beit Sahour.
Below are some pictures of the building before the renovation (in its current situation). I hope that in the near future we will be able to publish photos of the building after being renovated.
